Why our Client Made Contact with ST&L:
The Client had some safety concerns regarding a large CNC Gantry Milling Machine that had been in use since first supply in 2001. The machine had been subject to several modifications and upgrades from a German company.
The Client identified that their machinery across their UK sites had never been subjected to assessments against The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). It was noted that the machine had not been originally CE-Marked or during the significant modifications carried out
Project Objectives:
- Undertake a PUWER & EHSR (Essential Health & Safety Requirements of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC) gap analysis of the machinery and develop a risk-based action plan for implementation.
- Implement a strategy to manage the assessment, risk reduction and control of hazards for the machine.
- Investigate risk reduction opportunities, facilitate solutions and audit effectiveness.
- Design and manage the installation of machinery guarding and upgrading of the SRCS (safety-related control system).
- CE-Mark the machinery.
ST&L Scope of Works:
- Carry out PUWER & EHSR assessments/checklists and EN 60204-1/Low Voltage & EMC Directives check of electrical control panels on the machine and provide reports with priority levels for corrective actions.
- Present findings and gap-analysis to the Client.
- Liaison with the client to develop a project plan for implementation of corrective actions.
- Development a of Statement of Requirement (SOR) document outlining the proposed design of the guarding, interlocking and access solutions.
- Presentation of the SOR to the Client with Project, Engineering, H&S and Operational personnel.
- Update and final sign-off of SOR.
- Quotations produced for corrective actions.
- Design, manufacture, install and commission final solution.
- Create Technical File for CE-Marking Process
- Carry out CE-Marking Process, provided EC Declaration of Conformity and affix the CE mark.
